About
Dear Friends,
On Saturday, September 12, 2009, friends of Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE) will host a benefit in memory of Christopher Donalty, who died on February 21, 2002 of Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
Chris, the son of Barry and Jeanne Donalty, brother of Alison Donalty and Lauren Donalty Canalori, was born and raised in Utica, graduated tenth in his class from Proctor High School in 1998, and was a star baseball player for both the Proctor Raiders and Utica Post’s American Legion team. He was 21 years old and a candidate for a degree in business administration from Stetson University at the time of his death.
Chris’ family and friends are again joining together to pay tribute to him by raising funds for CURE to support critical epilepsy research, which offers hope to those afflicted with this debilitating disease.
All proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will go directly to support the 2009 Christopher Donalty and Kyle Coggins Memorial Award, which will fund epilepsy research that will benefit the thousands of people in our community who have epilepsy.
To date, individuals, foundations, and corporations from the Mohawk Valley have contributed over $720,000 which has enabled CURE to fund eight cutting edge research grants.
CURE is a grassroots organization founded in 1998 by parents of children with epilepsy, who were unwilling to sit back and accept the devastation of seizures and the side effects of treatments. CURE raises funds to spearhead the search for a cure. Chris’ mother, Jeanne Donalty, represents our area on CURE’s board of directors.
